Structural Health Monitoring
Among the various fields of research oriented
towards the development of smart materials and
structures, Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is
particularly promising. SHM has attracted significant
attention in recent years for its wide potential of
applications, especially for civil infrastructures,
aircraft and aerospace vehicles. This workshop is the
Fifth in a series of bi-annual European Workshops on
SHM, following those held in Cachan (France 2002),
Munich (Germany, 2004), Granada (Spain, 2006) and
Krackov (Poland, 2008). The conference will cover
activities related to damage detection and evaluation
in structures, signal processing, sensor development,
analytical and numerical modeling, and experimental
case studies.
We invite you to make your latest ideas, research and
development related to SHM available in terms of
submitting an abstract and presenting a paper as well
as actively participating in the various technical and
panel
discussions with leading experts in the relevant fields.
Scope of the Workshop
The workshop claims in general to assess current state-ofthe-
art technologies in the field and to discuss and
identify key and emerging issues in research and
development being critical and unique to SHM. The
workshop is also intended to promote exchange and crossfertilization
among different disciplines.
A specialty of this workshop is intended to be an intense
discussion on potential damaging obstacles in engineering
structures and means on how to alleviate this through
application of SHM. This will happen through selected
plenary keynote lectures, parallel specialized sessions, a
panel discussion, hardware demonstrations along an
exhibition and optional postworkshop excursions.
An exhibition area will therefore be made available for
product and technology demonstrations.
A book of proceedings will be published by an international publisher and delivered at the conference.
The workshop will focus on aspects such as:
1)Aerospace, aircraft, rotorcraft and launch systems
2)Civil, pipeline and power plant infrastructures
3)Land/marine vehicles and structures
4)Implementation/valdation for structural health monitoring
5)Sensing networks, autonomous systems
6)Sensors and actuators developments
7)Signal processing, monitoring, diagnostics
